A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES

Though this site does not purport to show a complete index of
all of the marriage entries for South Ronaldsay and Burray,
I can say with some confidence that I have tried to index all of the marriages
that seemed "discoverable" in the South Ronaldsay and Burray old parish
 registers and statutory registers for the years 1800 through 1899.
In addition, I have tried to locate a number of South Ronaldsay and Burray "Strays".

The statutory registers (post-1855 registers) usually indicated whether
a bride or groom was a widow or widower at the time of marriage.
Occasionally, the old parish registers may have made note of such
marital status information as well, but often this was not the case. 
As a result, I have tried to find out through my own research if a
   bride or groom was a widow or widower when they got married...
if my research has shown me evidence of this, then on this site
I indicate this by putting {Widow}  or  {Widower} in brackets
by the pertinent name(s).  But please note that I do not purport
to have complete knowledge of all widows or widowers! 
If you are aware of any additional widows or widowers
which I have not acknowledged, please contact me.

ALL SPELLINGS SHOWN IN INDEX ARE SHOWN AS THEY WERE DEPICTED
IN 1950s-1960s GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY of UTAH MICROFILM RECORDS,
OR IN DIGITIZED RECORDS FOUND ON THE ScotlandsPeople WEB SITE,
AS VIEWED AND TRANSCRIBED BY LISA CONRAD.

When handwriting could not be deciphered with certainty,
I enclosed the uncertain data within  {      }  , placing a best guess
within the brackets, or otherwise putting a  '?'  within the brackets.
ALSO PUT WITHIN BRACKETS  {      }  ARE ANY NOTES by me - these not being in original.

THIS IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER, AS YOU USE THE MARRIAGE INDEX.

Although original spellings were generally kept, when I felt
that SOME of the wordings or spellings needed additional
acknowledgment that they are, indeed, shown as depicted originally,
they were put within single quote marks, like so   >          '         '      
in order for me to re-emphasize this original wording or spelling.

does not give full marriage register information.
It was not my intention to detail full marriage information,
but to provide you with a guideline for your research.
